St. Croix sheep are widely renowned for their parasite resistance and low-input hardiness. We breed for these traits specifically, as well as musculature, weight gain, mothering instinct, and grass performance.
We never have and never will deworm our sheep. Instead, we specifically select animals that thrive without chemical deworming, and remove animals from the flock that don’t perform under these circumstances.
Our sheep eat a 100% grass & hay diet. During grazing season, we rotate them to fresh pasture daily. They are hot wire trained.
St Croix exhibit accelerated sexual maturity and high fertility. We breed our sheep at 7 months old, which means that at one year old, our ewes have already produced offspring. Our sheep typically twin — our twinning rate is over 70%, including first-year ewes. Our twinning rate is 100% for ewes older than a year .
